During the summer of 2006, I had the pleasure and honour to be asked to judge the Welsh Herd’s Competition. I believe that I am the first Irish person to have judged this competition. Judging the competition involved visiting 30 herds over 6days and assessing each breeder’s cattle.
Over the six days it was the Sable progeny in the Mynach herd that impressed me the most.
Having failed to bring Sable himself home with me to Galbally. It was decided in conjuction with the Mynach herd in Wales to import his semen to Ireland.
The first Sable sired calves have arrived in the Galbally herd. At their present young age of 2 months old they are living up to all our hopes and expectations.
All the Sable calves born in the Galbally herd were easily calved and have excellent docility.
